This place is a hidden gem! Nestled away in a little plaza, it feels like it could be anywhere. The service is amazing. They make you feel like you're part of their family in Italy.  They are famous for their Truffle Hunter menu with more truffle dishes than you could ever imagine. Did you know their truffles fly business class every night on Lufthansa? 17 hours from the ground in Italy to your plate in Los Angeles.

We came in early with a group of about 10 to do some family-style dining with a mix of colleagues from all over the world. The dishes recommended were all amazing. We did two truffle pasta dishes, a filetto di barbera (meat dish) which came w/ whipped potatoes on the side, a torteloni pomodoro dish, with caprese and bruschetta apps. We finished off with a dolci mixti selection of mini desserts including cannoli, tiramisu, tarts, panna cotta, and some biscuits. We split some bottles of Truffle Hunter Barbera and Prosecco which were recommended based on the food selection and paired amazingly.

Our office is near fox hills mall, and this place was leaps and bounds above anything we've tried within a few miles (where I've worked daily for the past 4 years). No hesitations to try this place. You will feel like family and you will not be disappointed.

I can't wait to travel back to LA so I can eat here again.

    Came in for Dine LA.
    1. Review would have been higher (3.5) except we had a HORRIBLE experience when it was time to leave. They drop the check after running the cards, a girl starts picking up our cups (that still had drinks in them.) There were 2 other tables there at that point that got up and left right when our check was dropped, and one of the tables had been loud, sitting in the middle of the room, and had kids that had been making noise the whole night (more on that later.) So, as soon as they left, and the restaurant was quiet, we realized it was time to go.
So we are still filling out the checks, and they turn the lights off completely then back on and turn the music off. Passive aggressive and you'd get this in a dive bar, but ok. So the girl starts aggressively slamming chairs around. We are ordering our Uber, and I tell her that because she is massively triggering an anxiety attack with all of the slamming. She just says, "ok" and slams more aggressively. We were made so UNCOMFORTABLE that we went to the restroom and waited outside for the Uber bc we felt completely unwelcome-- 2 girls on our own sitting in the dark. I was happy not to be wearing my wedding ring based on the area.
I get it- I've worked in service-- you wanna go home. But this is low end af. It was 10:30- we had no idea what time they closed. A suggestion for the future: drop the check initially and say, "just so you know, we are going to be closing soon." Or something like that. Because we didn't know, especially based on the fact that there were other tables still and the second they left, this craziness started. It completely ruined the experience for us, and is not a nice way to treat people that just spent $100 each on a meal w/ drinks etc. I was on the fence about going back based on the food, but probably would have, but I'd never go back now.
That being said, our waiter was a young  Italian man and he was an absolute gem and was so nice.

    2. The food. Asked my friend what her rating would be when we left, and we both agreed a 3 based on the food. I ordered a glass of Prosecco and it came room temp. The waiter asked what we thought of our drinks, and I hesitated and then he brought a cold one graciously. Back to food-- Yes, the generous truffles are the real draw here, but we both felt too much focus was on the truffle without focusing on the food. I.e., if the items didn't have truffle shavings, they'd have been only ok. But they did so they were good! No one brought bread that people love but I get it, we got the crostini anyway. The crostini- yes. It's just a vehicle for truffles. It was great. The tagliolini - would have been flavorless without the truffle, but it was nicely cooked and tasty with. The fish- was very tasty but once I got 1/2 way through to the center where it is thicker, it was undercooked in the center. Didn't even mention this to them bc I was so full anyway. The salad was an afterthought- just mixed greens with balsamic. The steak was nicely cooked but it had a balsamic reduction that was cloyingly sweet. The salad with that had way too much citrus zest. The chocolate salami, however, was amazing.
    3. The kids. This is not a date spot- unless you like crazy kids running around, making noise, running into you, and hitting you with balloons. They did this for the entire time we were there. They were blowing up balloons and letting them go to fly around the room and they were hitting other diners. Which is kinda funny and I didn't get hit. But I think most people wouldn't be happy about this interrupting date night- esp if they got a sitter or get annoyed by kids. I got the vibe maybe that table knew the owners or were affiliated with the restaurant somehow because no one seemed phased.
    4. The area- this isn't Culver City like downtown cute Culver City. I wish I'd realized that before coming, because it took a lot longer than anticipated to get there. This is like on the way to Marina Del Rey/ Playa Vista, past the 90... or almost Fox Hills. But that's just an observation/ not positive or negative.

All in all, what was a fun night catching up with a friend from out of town ended up ruined because the thing were going to remember about the restaurant is the horrible energy and the girl slamming sh*t around and flicking the lights like we were in a dive bar at 2 am when she knew we were waiting on a car to pick us up.

I was hoping this would be a good option for a great restaurant near LAX but unfortunately was disappointed. It wasn't any one big thing that led to a 3 star rating , instead it was many small things. In general , the portions are on the small side but the prices are on the high side. The wine options by the glass were just ok yet were also quite pricey for the quality. There was no bread until we asked and then it was 4 slices of toasted bread - not like in some of the posted pictures. The pesto stated it had potatoes and green beans in it , as they serve it in northern Italy , but there was not 1 single bean in there and it was lukewarm. We asked for the arrabiata on spaghetti and it came on penne - they took it back  but when it came out again it was more than al dente. It was actually crunchy.  Rushing to fix their mistake I'm sure compromised the food.  For dessert the home made tiramisu looked promising but ended up being all cream with a tiny cake center with hardly any coffee flavor.  While none of the food was bad , none of it was good enough for us to want to go back.
The bill came to $129 for 2 glasses of wine , 3 pasta dishes and 2 desserts. Plus  tax and tip it was overly expensive for a very so so meal.
The worst part was they were not busy at all. I think 4 tables were occupied so the many little inadequacies couldn't stem from them being overwhelmed.
Next time I'll drive a little further from the airport to get a better dinner.
    ***** side note *****
The business owner mentioned we ordered 2 glasses of  2014 Barolo but we actually did not. We had the one listed on the menu I believe it was 2017 or 2016 -and it was $18 a glass if I remember correctly. Just wanted to make sure I was being fair and accurate in my assessment.

Truffles were bland and chalky. Pasta was poorly cooked and the sauces lacked flavor.

Came expecting a beautiful Italian meal and left halfway through because of how disapointing the food was.

If you are looking for good Italian on the west side this is not the place.

Thanks for your response sir. We ate the food because we paid for it and came hungry, does not mean we enjoyed  it. Had every intention to pay full price and tip 20% for my food, doesn't mean I can't bring the poor quality to your attention. My friend doesn't like confrontation but believe me you she agrees with me.

If you want good Italian, go to  Scopa, go to Felix, go to La Vecchia, go to Bestia. Casa Modena is nowhere near the same level as any of those places.

My boyfriend and I had such a lovely dinner and first experience here tonight. We had the nicest and most thoughtful waiter, Nico. He was very attentive and did his absolute best to ensure we had a great time. Our night ended even happier all thanks to Nico! He even gave us a small gift to take home...olive oil from Italy. We came here for dineLA, and the options offered all sounded delicious. The food we ordered tonight were all topped with lots of truffle! Every dish was scrumptious and earthy, which made our first time here memorable. If you are looking for some authentic Italian food, you should give this place a chance and try out their dishes. The ambiance is also pretty cute for couples that want to have a date night.
